FAQs

Drones have been getting a lot of attention lately and have become one of the most popular toys among youngsters and adults. But like everything new, there are certain questions, thoughts, and worries as a parent you’d like to cover before buying a drone for you kid.

I’ve tackled here the most common questions that will most probably be going through your head regarding drones.

Are flying drones legal?

Remote controlled (RC) are classified as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Any drone that weighs between 250gms -25 kg should be registered with the agency to avoid any penalties and fines. Registration is very simple and can be done online.

Most of the toy drones fall under this weight, so it’s better to check the drones’ weight while buying it to be on the safe side.

Is it safe to give my kid a drone?

As much fun and entertaining flying drones and quadcopters can be, things could go south in a minute, so parental supervision is advised. That being said, nearly all toy drones that are manufactured for kids are extremely safe, so there’s nothing major to worry about as long as they’re being used outdoors.

Are there certain rules to follow when flying a drone?

Now that I’ve registered your drone if it’s applicable, there are definitely some rules you and your offspring should be aware of and consider:

a)      Always keep your drone below 400 feet

b)      Always keep clear of airports and never fly your drone near another aircraft

c)      Stay clear of sports events

d)      Always be aware of your location and surroundings before shooting up your drone

What are the commonly used acronyms related to drones?

There is certain terminology related to drones and quads that you should familiarize yourself with before buying your drone to make sure you know what you’re looking for and finding the perfect one:

Ready-to-fly (RTF): a feature that’s available in almost all toy drones and which means that it doesn’t need assembly or set-up. You can simply charge the battery and fly.

Almost Ready to Fly (ARF): these drones usually don’t come with a transmitter and might need a partial assembly from your part.

Bind- and -fly (BNF): is usually fully assembled, but the drone comes without a controller. In this case, either use a controller you already have or look to buy a separate one.

The Verdict

There are a lot of factors that should be considered to announce a winner, but it’s safe to say that the price of the drone isn’t one of those factors. I’ve tested many drones and quads in the market to share with you the best drone toys review, however, I’ve got to say that my personal favorite drone is, without a doubt, the  DJI Phantom 3.

it’s the most durable, powerful drone which works perfectly for beginners and more advanced users whether they are kids or adults. It has amazing features that easily make an excellent drone to play with, take pictures and videos with, or do stunts and race with.
